A message was received by Ewing Shields this morning stating that his sister, Mrs. Nellie Shields Dixon, died at 8:45 o'clock this morning at her home in Ft. Dade, Florida. Her death was unexpected to her relatives here, for while they knew that she was not in the best of health no information had been received that she was critically ill. Nellie Shields was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.L. Shields and was born at Shieldstown January 4, 1866, making her age forty-six years. She spent the greater part of her life in Seymour and had an extended acquaintance. In June 1891 she was married to A. A. Dixon, who is now chief clerk to the quartermaster of teh United States Army, located at Ft. Dade. She has been ill for several years with cancer, but her condition was not regarded as critical at this time, and only a short time ago wrote to her brothers here that she expected to spend the summer in Seymour. The deceased early in life became a member of the Presbyterian church of this city and was active in the work of her church. She possessed the highest qualities of character and because of her pleasing personality had a host of friends. She is survived by her husband, one sister, Mrs. W. R. Barnes, of Terre Haute, and four brothers, Ewing and A. D., of Seymour, L. L., of Cincinnati and Meedy, of Peru.
