Memorial Held For A. Whitsett
Memorial services for Private First Class Archie Whitsett, Jr., who was killed in France January 15, were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Central Chirstian Church, with the Rev. R.S. Wilson, pastor, in charge.
Mrs. Ray R. Keach, organist, played for the service and the Rev. Mr. Wilson delivered the memorial sermon. Friends were asked to omit flowers and the only floral tribute was a large gold star on a table standard at the front of the church.
Attending the services in a body were members of the Seymour fire department, of which Pfc. Whitsett was a member at the time of his induction, and Seymour Post, No. 89, American Legion.
Pfc. Whitsett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Whitsett, north of the city, and husband of Mrs. Alberta Whitsett, of this city, had been overseas only about a month when he was killed. He had been reported missing on January 8, and was later reported killed in action.
