Pfc. C. Weddel Dies in Action On Nazi Front

Medora Soldier Was Member of Infantry Dividion-Reported Missing Previously

Pfc. Clayton C. Weddel, age twenty-nine, was killed in action in Germany on November 20, the day he was previously reported missing, according to word from the War Department received by his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Weddel, Norman R1.

Mrs. Weddel had received word on December 6 that Pfc. Weddel was missing in action since November 20 and she recently received a telegram and later a letter confirming the notice of his death.

Overseas Since August.

Pfc. Weddel, who was a member of an infantry division seeing active service in Germany, was inducted into the U.S. Army March 2, 1944. He was stationed at Camp Wolters, Texas, seventeen weeks, where he received his basic training, and was then sent to Fort Meade, Maryland, and on to New York before going overseas the first part of August.

Arriving in England, he was sent to France, Holland, and Belgium, going from Belgium into Germany where he was stationed at the tie he was killed.

Pfc. Weddel was born February 5, 1915, in Medora, the son of Samuel and Daisy Jones Weddel, both of whom survive. He was married May 14, 1933, in Franklin to Dorothy Clampitt, of Norman, who, with one daughter, Barbara Ann, age fifteen months, also survives.

Had Been Employed Here.

Pfc. Weddel had been employed at the local plant of Noblitt-Sparks Industries, Inc., and just prior to his induction, was employed at Stark's Lumber Yard at Medora. He was a member of the Baptist Church at Liberty and the Franklin lodge of Modern Woodmen of America.

Besides his parents, widow and daughter, he is survived by three brothers, Lee Weddel of Franklin; Neal Weddel and Mancil Weddel, both of Anderson, and one sister, Mrs. Nelma Weddel Leckron, Seymour R3.
