Soldier Crashes In Japan-Sailor Is Believed Dead
Two Jackson county families have received word of the death of their sons who were serving in the armed forces.
Mr. and Mrs. John Blair, of Norman, have been informed that their son, Sergeant William A. Blair, was killed in a plane crash over Japan when his plane flew into a storm.
Glenn Eugene Ross, fireman, second class, of the U.S. Navy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Ross, Norman R1, is believed dead, according to a Navy department message. F 2/c Ross, was a crew member of the cruiser, Indianapolis, which was reported torpedoed July 30 off Leyte after delivering the first atomic bomb to waiting B-29s at Guam. The message received by his parents is similar to the one received recently by Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Barksdale, of this city, whose son, Thomas Leon "Sonny" Barksdale, a fire controlman on the cruiser, has also been believed dead at a result of all available evidence gathered by the Navy department.
