SAILOR LOST AS TRANSPORT SHIP IS SUNK
Rondall Harbaugh, of Freetown, Had First Been Reported Missing - Played Basketball
Word has been received by Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Harbaugh, of Freetown, of the death of their son, Rondall Harbaugh, who was in active service with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific. They had received word in December that their son, serving on a transport ship, was missing, and later the message concerning his death was received.
According to reports, only a few members of the crew were saved, when the ship was hit and sunk by Japanese torpedoes.
Seaman Harbaugh, who was about twenty years old, in the second veteran of World War II in Pershing township to lose his life. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Harbaugh, of Freetown. Mr Harbaugh is employed as a mechanic at Freeman Field.
OVERSEAS FOR YEAR
Graduated from Freetown High School two years ago, Seaman Harbaugh entered the U.S. Navy about eighteen months ago, receiving his boot training at Great Lakes, Illinois. He was sent overseas one year ago, and had been seeing active service in the Pacific area since.
He was a popular student and a member of the Freetown basketball team and was known as an excellent player. Beside the parents, he is survived by three younger brothers, all at home.
