ANOTHER JACKSON COUNTY BOY DIES WHILE IN SERVICE

Vance Gossman, of Driftwood Township Succumbs to Tuberculosis at Fort Benjamin Harrison

Vance Gossmen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Gossman, of Driftwood township, passed away at the U.S. army hospital at Fort Benjamin Harrison Thursday evening at 6:10 following a lingering illness of several months. The deceased was 24 years old.

The young soldier entered the service June 23, 1918 at Camp Sherman, Chillicothe, O. He was in training there for several months and last September sailed for France for duty overseas.

Gossman sailed for the United States in June arriving the latter part of that month. He was taken to the army hospital at Fort Benjamin Harrison arriving there June 30th where he was a patient until claimed by death. The young man was taken ill last February while in France ande contracted tuberculosis, since which time he gradually grew worse.

Besides the bereaved parents, the deceased is survived by three brothers, Walter, Gilbert, and Hubert Gossman, who reside in Driftwood township. The remains are expected to arrive at Vallonia late this afternoon. The funeral service will be held Sunday morning at 10:30 at White's church in Driftwood township. Interment will be made in the Vallonia cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gossman, parents of the deceased soldier, and Wacker Gossman, an uncle, were in the city this afternoon enroute to their home near Vallonia from Fort Benjamin Harrison. They were at the bedside of the young soldier when death came.

The young man is the second Driftwood township boy to die while in service.
