Infantrymen Lose Lives On European War Front

Two soldiers, members of infantry divisions, were killed on widely separated battle front, according to word received today by surviving relatives. Private First Class Curtis E. Findley, age twenty-eight, husband of Mrs. Doris Findley, 606 Mill street, was killed in action February 10 in Italy and Private First Class Lawrence E. Havener, age twenty-nine, husband of Mrs. Eunice Hunt Havener, 806 South Chestnut street, who had been reported missing in action December 16 in Luxembourg, has now been reported killed in action on the same date.

Pfc. Findley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Findley, Seymour R4, was born January 18, 1917. He attended Cortland High School and prior to his induction into the army in April, 1944, was employed by the Cummins Engine Company at Columbus. He received basic training at Camp Fannin, Texas.

He married March 12, 1936 to Doris Baxter, of this city, who with three children, Norma Jean, age eight, Ruth Ann, age three, and Mary Lou, age fifteen months, survives.

Was Serving in Italy.

Pfc. Findley was serving with an infantry dividion of General Clark's Fifth Army in Italy and had been overseas since November, 1944. Mrs. Findley recieved a letter from her husband last Saturday which was dated February 8, just two days before he was killed, in which he told her that he was in the mountains, "sitting in the sun trying to keep warm" and waiting for "things to open up."

Besides the widow and children, Pfc. Findley is survived by his parents and three sisters and one brother: Mrs. Harold Hudson, Mrs. Delbert Meyers, Mrs. Bertha Pruitt and Guy Martin Findley, all of this city.

Mrs. Walter Prall, East Second street, an aunt, also survives.

Findley, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Findley, Seymour R4, was serving with an infantry division of General Clark's Fifth Army. He has three daughters, Norma Jean, age eight, Ruth Ann, age three, and Mary Lou, age fifteen months, at home.
