Here the diary ends. It began in the middle of a small notebook. Most of it was written in pencil and is much faded. There is evidence that some of the pages in the front of the book are missing, apparently torn out. On retuning home, did Clifford censor the diary? Interesting! At this writing, Clifford Tribbett is still living at the home farm passed down from his grandfather, Laurenz Willkom. Clifford is ninety years old having been born in November or December of 1896. He and his sister, Ida, are both in good physical and mental health. Ida is Eighty-three. She does all her own housework, raises many flowers and a garden, sews, crochets and keeps very busy. ~Jane Johnson Ruddick

Equipment issued to W.W.1 service men:

  • 1 rope
  • 2 blankets
  • 1 suit of underwear

These packs, according to my father, Dale Johnson, weighed about sixty pounds and made a long march a miserable experience.
