John Glasson and Abagail/Abigail Dedrick

John married Abigail in 1844 in Jackson County, IN. John's parents were William Emerson and Rachel Marshall Glasson there are two recorded marriage dates for John and Abigail. Information from the Jackson County Marriage Index from 1816 states it was 30 JAN 1844 and some of the family members have it recorded as 1 FEB 1844. John was born 16 MAY 1822 in Jackson Co., IN and died there on the 2 FEB 1891. Abigail was born on 10 DEC 1824 in New York and died in Jackson Co., IN on 27 SEP 1887. They are buried in Jackson Co., IN, Redding Twp. in the Glasson/Gossett/Montgomery Cemetery.

Their known children:

William Glasson was born around 1845 no solid death or marriage information was found.

Joel F. or P. Glasson was born on 30 AUG 1846 and died on 13 MAR 1888 of injuries obtained in a sawmill accident on 3 MAR 1888 near Seymour. He is buried in the Glasson/Gossett/Montgomery Cemetery in Redding Twp. In the 1880 federal census of Jackson Co., IN, Jackson Twp, Joel was living in the same household with Jacob and Barbara A. Ruddick. Joel was never married.

Charles Glasson was born around 1849, no solid death or marriage information was found for him. He was living with his parents in the 1880 federal census.

John Glasson was born around 1853 suffered injuries from a horse accident and lived with his brother Reuben. No death or marriage information found.

Rachel Glasson was born around 1852. A marriage record for a Rachel H. Glasson in Jackson Co., IN to a Jacob H. Bunton on 8 MAR 1894. No positive proof that this marriage was for John and Abigail's daughter. No death or other marriage information found. She was living with her parents in the 1880 federal census.

Reuben Woodrow Glasson married Alice "Alllie" Clementine Franklin on the 24 DEC 1893 in Jackson Co., IN He was born 6 JAN 1861 in Jackson Co., IN and died in Bartholomew Co., Elizabethtown, IN on 27 JAN 1941. She was born 29 OCT 1867 or 68 in Bartholomew Co., IN and died in Jackson Co., IN, Seymour on 20 JUN 1957.

John and Abigail farmed and lived with their family in Redding Township, Jackson County, IN. The house they built stood on the corner of 900 North on the south side of the road and 150 feet from U. S. Highway 31. The house has been torn down and the ruins are still on the property in Aug. of 2004.

Abigail’s marriage to John.

There were several Dedrick families in Harrison, Clark and Orange Counties in the Indiana Federal Head of Household census for the years from 1850-1880. Several of these Dedrick families were from Nassau, Germany.

FROM THE BROWNSTOWN BANNER NEWSPAPER 5 MAR 1891:

John Glasson, one of the most esteemed citizens of this county, died Thursday night of neuralga of the stomach, aged seventy years. He was born and always resided within half a mile of where he died.

No other death information was found for Abigail but the tombstone.

REUBEN/RUEBEN WOODROW GLASSON AND ALICE "ALLIE' CLEMENTINE FRANKLIN

Reuben was married to Alice "Allie" Clementine Franklin in Jackson Co., IN, on 24 DEC 1893 she was the daughter of Anderson and Clarrisa Pyatt Franklin. In the federal census records when she was a child living with her parents she was listed as Alice. She preferred the name Allie over Alice.

The date of Allie's birth is 29 OCT 1967 or 68. In some of the records found Allie's birth year was 1870 and 1871. In the 1870 federal census of Bartholomew County, Columbus Twp., IN she was two years old.

The known children of Reuben and Allie:

Raymond Lawrence Glasson married Vivian Marg Kennedy in 8 JUN 1916 in Jackson Co., IN. He is buried in the Reddington Cemetery the tombstone reads born 1894 and died 1936. No death information for for Vivian

Moreland Samuel Glasson was born MAR 1896 and died in 1950. He married a woman by the name of Hazel A. maiden name and date of marriage unknown. She was born in 1901 and died in 1979. The couple is buried in the Riverview Cemetery.

Imogene E. Glasson married Charles H. Quade in Jackson Co., IN on 12 OCT 1922, she was born 20 SEP 1897 and died 22 JAN 1980, and he was born 5 FEB 1896 and 18 JUN 1976. The couple is buried in the Riverview Cemetery. Their son Charles E. is buried there next to them he was born and died on 6 MAR 1929.

Charles Glasson was born in OCT 1899.

Gordon Glasson was born 20 FEB 1902 and died 22 FEB 1916 at the age of 14 years, 0 months and 2 days of peritonitis caused by tuberculos or infection of the bowels. C. A. Hunter from Seymour was the Doctor that reported the death, C. H. Husted was the undertaker, this information is from the Jackson County, Indiana Health Department in Seymour, Book H 29 page 15.

Mildred Margaret Glasson married Lloyd Emerson Montgomery on 26 MAR 1924 in Jackson Co., IN She was born in Jackson Co., IN on JUN 27 1904 and died 28 JUN 1998 and he was born on 30 DEC 1901 and died in 9 OCT 1991 in the same county. The couple are buried in the Reddington Cemetery.

Millard Marion Glasson married Lilly "Lillian" Mae/May Leslie on 16 AUG 1928 in Clark County, Jeffersonville, IN. Millard was born 27 JUN 1904 and died on 25 APR 1982 in Bartholomew Co., Columbus, IN. Lillian was born on 29 JUL 1909 in Jackson Co., IN and died in Bartholomew Co. Columbus, IN on 16 MAR 1990. The couples are buried in the Garland Brook Cemetery, Bartholomew Co., Columbus, IN.

John Glasson, Reuben's brother was living with this family in the 1900 and 1910 federal censuses of Jackson Co., IN Redding Twp. He had an accident involving riding a horse, which caused him to have, fits and he was unable to live by himself.

MILLARD MARION GLASSON AND LILLY "LILLIAN" MAE/MAY LESLIE

Reuben and Allie's son Millard Marion Glasson married Lilly "Lillian" Mae/May Leslie on 16 AUG 1928 in Clark County, Jeffersonville, IN. From a CD by Heritage Quest "Indiana Vital Records, Births, Indiana 1882 to 1920" Lillian's birth record reads Lilly May but she preferred the name Lillian. Lillian was born the second oldest known child of Solomon Leslie and Eva Ferguson on 21 JAN 1909 in Jackson County, Seymour, IN.

Millard was born on 27 JUN 1904 in Jackson County, IN at his parent's home in Redding Twp. 100 to 150 feet from Sand Creek on the westside of Highway 31 south of the creek. Today there are still some trees standing close to where the house was. Millard or "Gramps" as his family called him told them that he had put a catcher's mitt in the attic or wall of that house and was hoping he could someday retrieve it. He never did.

Their known children:

Robert Eugene "Bob" Glasson married Jo Ann Southern on 27 MAR 1948 in Bartholomew County, IN. Bob was born on 7 MAR 1929 in Jackson Co., IN and died in Jackson Co., IN, Seymour at the hospital there on 8 MAR 2002.

They also had two daughters who are still living.

Gramps had a Star automobile that was from the early or mid 1920's, and he and his buddies would take one of the front wheels off and drive around Seymour with three wheels. Gramps also had dates driving a horse and wagon or buggy. He played baseball as a kid in the town of Reddington at the ball field behind the fire department next to the old school house on County road 1000 North off Highway 31 south on the eastside of the road. He played catcher; one game he caught a fast ball and it peeled his fingernail back and stood it straight up. One of the other guys playing pushed it back down and laid a chaw of chewing tabacco or chew on it.

Lillian who was affectionately called "Granny" and Gramps lived on a 114-acre farm near Scipio, IN with his parents, during the great depression.

Lillian died on March 16, 1990 in Columbus, IN. She and Gramps are buried at Garland Brook Cemetery

SOLOMON LESLIE AND EVA FERGUSON

Solomon was the youngest known child of James and Deborah Lucas Leslie. He worked for the railroad and the family was living in Jackson Co., IN, Seymour, Jackson Twp., IN in the 1910 and 1920 federal census. In the 1910 census it states his father and mother were born in IN, in the 1920 census it states his mother and father were born in KY. Deborah was born in Bartholomew Co., IN and James was born in Edmondson Co., KY. The 1910 says that Solomon could not read or write but Eva's information states that she could.

Their known children were all born in Jackson Co., IN the exact birth order is not known:

Sarah Ann Leslie was born around 1906 her married name was Patton. She is buried in the Riverview Cemetery her name is on the same stone as her mother. The dates for Sarah are 1906 to 1971.

Lilly Mae/May "Lillian" Leslie (it was written Lilly May in both the 1910 and 1920 federal census of Jackson Co., IN) She was born 21 JAN 1909 in Seymour. She married Millard Marion Glasson on 17 AUG 1927 in Clark Co., Jeffersonville, IN. She died on 16 MAR 1990 in Bartholomew Co., Columbus, IN and he died there on 25 APR 1982, and the couple is buried in the Garland Brook Cemetery there. Lillian was the preferred name

Stella Belle Leslie was born 16 MAR 1911 she married Harley Hill on 6 JUN 1926 in Jackson Co., IN They had one known son Harley Hill Jr. Stella Belle died 11 FEB 1997 and is buried at Riverview Cemetery, Seymour. Harley Jr. is buried in the Riverview Cemetery he married a woman by the name of Irene W. on 3 APR 1954 place unknown. He was in the A3C U. S. Air Force Korea born 14 MAR 1930 and died 12 AUG 1990. His wife was born 30 DEC 1934 no date of death recorded.

Louella or Lou Ella Leslie was born 13 MAR 1916 she married Ward W. Newkirk on 25 AUG 1933 in Jackson County. Her married name was Reinbold in Eva's obituary.

Betty Louise Leslie in Eva's obit her married name was Rodman

Harold/Herold Leslie was born 29 JAN 1920.

Harry Leslie was born 29 JAN 1920.

* Harold and Harry may be the same person or they might be twins.

William S. "Bud" Leslie was born on 26 DEC 1922 in Jackson Co., IN and died 13 AUG 1894. He married a woman named Jo Ann. She was born 18 OCT 1836, date of death not recorded. They are buried in the Riverview Cemetery.

James Leslie died at the age of 2 and is buried in Jackson Co., IN

Eva was born 19 NOV 1887 in Jackson Co., IN, Ewing the daugther of Nathaniel/Nathanal and Pruda/Prudie/Prudence Atkins Ferguson. Solomon was born 20 DEC 1884 in either IN or KY. They both died in Jackson Co., IN, she on 21 JUN 1964 with burial in the Riverview Cemetery and he on 5 SEP 1931 with burial in the Acme Cemetery.

ANDERSON FRANKLIN AND CLARISSA PYATT/PYATT

Anderson Franklin and Clarissa Pyatt were married in Bartholomew Co., IN on 22 JUL 1852. They were found living in Indiana in Columbus Twp. Post Office Columbus in Bartholomew County, in the 1860 federal census. After some deliberation, it is thought they were living with Thomas 79 and Temperance Lewallen or Sewallen 71, both were listed as being born in NC and neither Thomas or Tempa could read or write, their value of real estate was 8000 and value of personal property was 200. Also what appears to be Newtin Luck, 25 was living in the house with them, it states he was born in IN. The relationship to the Franklin's, Lewallen's/Sewallen's and Luck's is unknown.

Anderson stated in the 1860 and 1870 federal censuses he was born in IN around 1833 and Clarissa stated she was born in OH and neither of them could read or write. Her birth date is 27 JUN 1834. He died 11 AUG 1897 and she died 22 JUN 1906 both in Jackson Co., IN and are buried at the Riverview Cemetery in Seymour.

In the 1870 federal census they were in the same area except they were in their own household, had 3500 value of real estate. His occupation was marked farmer and she was listed as keeping house.

Their known children:

Mary E. Franklin was born in 1855 in Bartholomew Co., IN. Mary A. E. Franklin married William J. Houchen on 1 JAN 1874 in Bartholomew Co., IN. She is buried in the Riverview Cemetery in Jackson Co., IN with the name Estella (must have been preferred name) with these dates on the stone 1855 to 1922, her name is on the same stone as the Franklin's. William's tombstone reads Co. A 145 Ind Vol Inf.; 1847 to 1924.

Henry H. Franklin was born in Bartholomew Co., IN around 1856, no other records found for him.

Rachel M. Franklin was born in DEC 1859 in Bartholomew Co., IN. She was living with her mother and brother Gwyn in the 1900 federal census of Jackson Co., IN, Redding Twp. She may never had been married, she indicated that she had no children in the 1900 census. Rachel M. Franklin may have married and divorced Oliver P. Glasson, in the Marriage Record Index for Jackson Co., IN they was a listing for a marriage on 26 NOV 1879. She is buried in the Riverview Cemetery along with other family members her stone is marked with these dates 1859 to 1925.

Benjamin Franklin was born around 1861 he may have died young, no other information found for him.

John M. G Franklin in the 1880 census John M. G. who was 6 in 1870 is no longer listed with the family and Gwinn is listed as 15 born in IN. It might be that John is Gwinn. Gwyn married Lona Smith in Jackson Co., IN on 29 NOV 1891. She died in 1899 in and is buried with John at the Riverview Cemetery. John was born NOV 1864 or 65 in Bartholomew Co., IN and died in 1936 in Jackson Co., IN

Alice C. Franklin who preferred the name Allie married Reuben Woodrow Glasson in Jackson Co., IN on 24 DEC 1893. She was born either in 1868 OCT 29. She died 20 JUN 1957 in Seymour and is buried at the Reddington Cemetery along with Reuben who was born 6 JAN 1861 and died in Bartholomew Co., IN on 27 JAN 1941.

* In the 1900 federal census Clarissa indicated that she had had 8 children and 5 of them still living.

In the 1850 federal census of Bartholomew Co., Columbus Twp., Indiana on page 320, Anderson was 17, born in IN and living with Margaret Franklin who was 69 and had been born in NC and owned 1600 in value of real estate. Thomas and Temperance Lewallen or Sewallen were one or two houses away from them.

The death certificate of Clarissa P. Franklin can be found at the Jackson Co., IN, Health Department, Seymour. It has been recorded in book H-29 pg. 78. She died 2 JUN 1919 in Redding Twp a widow. She was 84 years, eleven months, 6 days old. She was born 27 JUN 1834 in OH to "Beny" and Rachel McMillan Pyatt who both were recorded in that record as born in VA. Clarissa died after three days of an acute obstruction of the intestine. A. G. Osterman was the Doctor who recorded her death to the department and the undertaker was J. W. Hudstedt. The 1850 federal census of Bartholomew Co. Columbus Twp., Indiana has her living at home with Benjamin and Rachel Pyatt.

From the Jackson Co., Indiana Obituaries 1897-1898: FRANKLIN, Anderson - Anderson Franklin dropped dead Wed., Aug. 11,at his home in Redd. Twp., 3 miles north of Seymour, with paralysis, aged about 60 years. Deceased was raised in Barth. Co., but moved many years ago to his late home. Burial in Riverview Cemetery. A wife and 4 children survive. (Wed., Aug. 11. - R.)

JAMES G./S. LESLIE AND DEBORAH/DEBAY ANN LUCAS

The parents of Solomon Leslie father of Lillian were James Leslie and Deborah Lucas. They were married 9 AUG 1868 in Bartholomew County, IN where Deborah lived with her parents William H. and Mary Enis Lucas in Wayne Township.

These are their known children, birth order may not be exact:

Jacintha or Syntha Leslie was born around 1870. May have died young no record of her found after 1880.

Carrie B. Leslie date of birth not known, married Daniel A. Collier on 2 APR 1905 in Jackson Co., IN

Henry E. Leslie was born around 1878 in KY and married Mary J. Acres in Jackson Co., IN on 15 SEP 1898.

Ida May Leslie was born around 1880 in KY and married Samuel Allman on 19 AUG 1895 in Jackson Co., IN

Solomon Leslie was born on the 20 DEC 1884 in either KY or IN. He married Eva Ferguson etc. on 10 MAR 1906 in Jackson Co., IN He died on 5 SEP 1931 and is buried in the Acme Cemetery. She was born in Jackson Co., IN on 19 NOV 1887 and died there on 21 JUN 1964 with burial in the Riverview Cemetery.

James and Deborah were in the 1870 federal census of Hamilton Township, Jackson County, IN on page 384. In the 1880 United States federal census they were listed in Ohio County, KY Centertown page 561A. James stated that he was born in KY in both the 1870 and 1880 federal censuses. Their two children Henry E. and Ida M. were reported as born in KY in the 1880 federal census. Solomon's death certificate from Jackson County states that he was born in KY but his obituary and the federal census records state IN, it is uncertain where Solomon was born.

James Leslie's etc. death certificate reads he was born in 1837 in KY, but the federal census record of 1850, 70 and 80 gives his age so that his birth year is more than likely 1847.

Deborah's death information has not been found.

WILLIAM EMERSON GLASSON JUNIOR AND REBECCA ANN BREWER

William Emerson Glasson Junior was born in Jackson Co., IN on 17 or 27 OCT 1827 he married Rebecca A. Brewer on 18 SEP 1853 in that county, where she set up house keeping and he farmed. Rebecca's date of birth was 31 MAR 1832 and her death date is 1930. They are both buried in the Glasson/Gossett/Montgomery Cemetery. Rebecca was born in Pennsylvania and her family came down the Ohio River on flat boats and they were among the early settlers of Jackson County. Her family originally came from Ireland. Her grandparents were married there and her mother, Mary, was recorded as being born in PA in the federal census records. According to the 1870 and 80 federal census of Jackson Co., IN, Redding Twp Mary was living Rebecca's family. Rebecca's father might have been Jacob Brewer who was found living with a Mary Brewer 59, in the 1860 federal census of Jackson Co., IN, Redding Twp., IN. In that census Jacob was 61, a farmer and stated he was born in PA.

Oliver P. Glasson was born around 1856. First he married a woman by the name of Rachel M. Franklin on 26 NOV 1879 in Jackson Co., IN Not sure if this is Anderson and Clarissa Franklin's daughter, Rachel. Later he married a Mollie E. Murry in Jackson Co., IN on 25 SEP 1883. He died on 15 OCT 1896 in Carlisle, Arkansas of typhoid fever. Mollie remarried in Jackson Co., IN on 25 SEP 1900 to John W. Briner

William H. Glasson born 19 JUL 1857 and died in 4 JAN 1910. He became a prosperous farmer. There are two recorded marriages for him in Jackson Co., IN one to Katie Swean on 13 JUN 1880 and another to Minerva Cox on 26 DEC 1900. William is buried in Glasson/Gossett/Montgomery Cemetery. Frank Emerson Glasson was born 26 MAR 1869 and died in 1940. He was possibly married to Grace Lind on 4 NOV 1908 in Jackson Co., IN Later he married Flora Talley marriage place and date unknown. Flora was born 30 DEC 1873 and died 3 AUG 1851. Flora and Frank are buried in the Reddington Cemtery.

Joseph Glasson died somewhere in Missouri, birth, death and marriage unknown.

Kate/Katie Glasson birth and death date not known, married Ellsworth Bittner in Jackson Co., IN on 16 OCT 1901 and lived somewhere near Indianapolis. (This may have been the daughter of William H. and Katie Swean Glasson she might have died in childbirth.)

Jacob and Mary Brewer were found in the 1860 federal census of Jackson Co., IN, Redding Twp. They both were recorded as being from or born in PA he was 61 and she was 59. There is a Jacob Brewer buried in the Reddington Cemetery his tombstone reads 30 OCT 1801 to 20 OCT 1861. This is probably the father of Rebecca. Mary died 4 NOV 1884 and is buried in the Reddington Cemetery.

From the book Jackson Co., IN Obituaries 1881 to 1885: for the year 1884: Brewer, Mary-Died Tues. Nov. 4, at the residence of Wm. Glasson, in Redd. Twp., of old age, Mrs. Mary Brewer, aged 84 years. Deceased was the mother of Mrs. Glasson & was a pioneer of Jack. Co., having resided in Redd. Twp. For over 30 years. The remains will be interred in the Redd. cem. tomorrow. (Tues. Nov. 4-D)

JASPER GLASSON AND ARSINIA/ARSINEE/ARSINNICE DOWNS

Jasper Glasson was born around 1839 in Jackson Co., IN and married a woman whose first name was Arsinia, her maiden name might possibly be Downs, their marriage date and place are unknown.

Jasper was in the Civil War Co. G 57th Indiana Volunteers; he is buried in section G of the Riverview Cemetery, Seymour with a military marker. There are no dates on this marker. However from the book Riverview Cemetery Redding Township Jackson County Cemeteries, Arsinia died 10 AUG 1922, 75 yrs., 4 mos. and 23 days old and Jasper died on 13 APR 1877, 37 yrs, 4 mos. and 13 days old.

Their two known daughters were:

Sarah E. Glasson may have been Emma S. who is buried in the same section of the Riverview Cemetery that Jasper is buried, the birth and death dates for Emma S. are 1869 to 1938. In the 1880 federal census of Jackson Co., IN Redding Twp.

Sarah was listed as Sarah E.

Minnie Glasson Anthony is buried in the same section as Jasper and Emma S. her birth and death dates are 1867 to 1933.

No marriage information has been found for her.

Arsinia's parents were noted as born in OH in the 1880 federal census.
