SPICELAND TOWNSHIP

Spiceland Township is located in the southern part of Henry county, and is bounded on the north by Greensboro and Henry townships, on the east by FrankHn township, on the south by Rush county, and on the west by Wayne and Greensboro townships, and contains an area of 22J square miles.

The surface is rolling ; the soil productive ; timber, gravel, and stock water plentiful, while the landscape views from those rolling pastures are beautiful.

The village of Spiceland is the most populous town in the township. This village can boast of as good privileges of education as can be found in the county. The Spiceland Academy is attended by students from all parts of the county, and from other parts of the State. Ogden and Dunreith, both villages of considerable note, are located in the southern part of the township.

The value of all taxable property amounts to about $1,000,- 000. The population of the township is near 2200.

Some of the first settlers were Thomas Greenstreet, Allen Hunt, Samuel Carr, Samuel Griffin, Solomon Byrkitt, and Dan- iel Jackson.
