Thelma M. Tompkins

Thelma M. Tompkins, 84, of New Castle, passed away Saturday morning at Henry Community Health. She was born May 10, 1936 in New Castle, the daughter of the late Herman and Sylvia (McCormack) Jay.

A 1954 graduate of New Castle High School, she enjoyed many different arts and crafts, including sewing, crocheting, gardening and canning. She was a member of the Cheerful Homemakers, and enjoyed bowling on different leagues. An Indiana Pacers fan, she enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren and loved her dog, Penny.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of over 63 years, Melvin W. “Tom” Tompkins of New Castle, three children, Debbie (Jeff) Howe of New Castle, Penny Marcum of New Castle, and Terry (Brandy) Tompkins of Greenfield; grandchildren, Brandy (Trent) Brewster, Travis (Wendy) Howe, Stephanie (Zack) Cox, Daniela Marcum, Corwin Marcum (Jade), Tiffany Tompkins and Brittany Tompkins; great grandchildren, Hailee, Trighton, Madison, Wyatt, Sam, Brayden, Savannah, Sadie, John, Luke, Zanler and Teaghan; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Wiley and Charlie Jay.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Dr. Joe Harmon officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service.
