According to the "72-Year Rule," the National Archives releases census records to the general public 72 years after Census Day. As a result, the 1950 census records should be released in April 2022.

There are several types of census schedules that we can use to search for our ancestors. The Population Schedule is used more often than the others because it gives us specific information about members of a family. The 1850 to 1940 census lists all members of the household on the population schedule.

1830 Census Description

The United States Census of 1830, the fifth census undertaken in the United States, was conducted on June 1, 1830. The enumeration of this census was to be completed in six months; however, the deadline was extended to twelve months.

It determined the population of the 24 states to be 12,866,020, of which 2,009,043 were slaves.

The census questions were: The categories for the 1830 census were expanded in the age groups again. In addition, some social categories made their first appearance. Each head of family was listed and was asked these questions:

The number of free White males and females, respectively:

The number of slaves and free colored persons of each sex, respectively:

The number of White persons and the number of "slaves and colored persons" who were deaf and dumb aged:

The number of White persons and "slaves or colored persons" who were blind, respectively

The number of White persons who were foreigners not naturalized

Categories for deaf, dumb, and blind person and aliens; town or district; and county of residence.

This was the first census that the government provided a uniform printed form for enumerators to record the census questions.
