Helphenstine Bible Records
Actually included here are two bible records for
John Philip Jacob Helpenstine and his descendants. Maggie
Helphenstine Foudray and her brother John P. Helphenstine
are buried in the I.O.O.F Cemetery-Marion, Indiana (currently
known as The Estates of Serenity). Maggie is my (Sheila D. Watson)
great-grandmother.
On September 6, 1838 in Fleming County Kentucky, Rebecca
Helphinstine, resident of Fleming county Kentucky, made oath that J.P.
Helphinstine was in the 8th Virginia Regiment commanded by Colonel Muhlenburg
and served from the beginning to the close of the Revolutionary War and was
a pensioner to the day of his death. That she was married to said J.P.
Helphinstine on the 16th day of June 1776 in Frederick County Virginia.
That her husband, J.P. Helphinstine died on the 19th of October 1830.
On March 27, 1839, Rebecca Helphinstine, resident of Fleming County
Kentucky make oath similar as above and further stated that she was married
to said Philip Helphinstine as stated above. She also states that she has
in her possession, the large family Bible in which her husband registered
with his own hand, the occurrence of their marriage and birth of the children
and that it is there recorded that Philip Helphinstine was married on the
date above mentioned to Rebecca Wolf, and the births of their children,
twelve in number, were recorded as follows:

She states that the record kept by her deceased husband in the Bible
aforesaid pertaining to marriage and deaths of their children and births of
their grandchildren is continued much further as follows:

being 18 years of age when he married, his birthday having been on the 9th
of the month in which he married.
William Helphinstine was married to Polley Conrad on the 10th of
February 1828.
These sheets were removed from John Philip Jacob Helphenstine's family bible,
in front of sworn witnesses, to prove Rebecca (Wolf) Helphenstine's marriage
to John Philip Jacob Helphenstine. She had to do this in order to obtain her
pension for the service of John Philip Jacob in the Rev. War. The original
sheets are found in Philip's pension file #8930 in Washington D.C. National
Archives.
This page records the births of the children of John Philip Jacob
Helphenstine and Rebecca (Wolf) Helphenstine, including two births
of grandchildren.
Peter Helpenstine Bible Record
This bible record was copied by the aid of a magnifying glass.
It is in the possession of Mrs. Eva Glover, of Paris, Kentucky. The
pages were blotted and quite yellowed with age. Mrs. Glover thought
this was the first time this record had been copied. This work was
prepared by Nannine Clay Wallis, July 29, 1958. On the first page
is "Philadelphia: Printed and Published by Carey and Sons--No. 126
Chestnut St. 1818"
The record is as follows:

NOTE: These last three name were on 3rd Page under Deaths.
Mrs. Glover tells me that she has an elderly aunt, Mrs. Dave
Helpinstine, (Lillie Foughdray) age 93 who lives in Fleming County and
her Post Office is Goddard. Goddard is a small place on the Flemingsburg
and Morehead Highway. The John Goddard Plantation mentionedd in the Bible,
may be the land the family had in this section of Fleming County and this
name Goddard came from that family.
NOTE: I have copied the information as I found it. This was evidently done
in 1958. Lillie Foudray is the correct spelling. Most, if not all, of these
people in this record can be identified as descendents of John Philip Jacob
Helphinstine of Fleming County
Kentucky.
