Miami Indian Cemetery Monument

"In Remembrance of Our Ancestors"


Erected in 2009 by the Mississinewa Battlefield Society, with the support of the Miami Nation of Indians of Indiana, Wearly Monuments, Fisher Body Masons and Wal-Mart Distribution Center #7055, this monument was dedicated on December 5, 2009. It lists all of the individuals known to have been interred in the Mami Indian Cemetery.

The south face of the monument bears the portrait of Chief Meshingomesia (1781-1879) and the statement of dedication.


The north face acknowledges those who contributed to its creation.


The east and west faces alphabetically list 83 individuals known to be interred within this historical cemetery.
