Obituary for John A. Huey

Longtime Alaskan John Arthur Huey, 91, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019 at Central Peninsula Hospital.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at the Kenai Senior Center.
John was born May 9, 1927 in Glezen, Pike County, Indiana to David Stanley and Lucy (Chandler) Huey. He graduated from Mount Olympus High School in 1945 and was immediately inducted in to the U.S. Navy serving on the destroyer, USS Woodworth. After he was honorably discharged, he attended Indiana University earning the Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Master of Arts degree in Japanese Government.
On June 28, 1949, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Aline McIlree. Their honeymoon was a camping trip over the Alcan Highway.
The couple homesteaded near Ninilchik in 1950 and became commercial fishermen from which he retired at the age of 70.
John was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Leigh, his parents, and brothers, Maurice and Paul.
He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Elizabeth Aline; daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and Alexander Milner of England; grandson, Brian Milner of Austin, Texas; granddaughter, Anne Milner of Santa Barbara, Calif.; and nephews, Mike and Myron Huey.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the charity of the donor’s choice.
Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
