Raymond “Keith” Weisheit, 68, passed away surrounded by his family Friday, August 31, 2018, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.
He was born April 16,
1950, in Evansville, IN to the late R.F. “Bob” and Rosemary “Rosie” Weisheit.
He was raised in Princeton, IN.
Keith graduated from Princeton High School in 1968 and
served as a Warrant Officer and helicopter pilot in Vietnam. He was also known
as “Lurch," his callsign; given to him by his
brothers in arms. Flying helicopters was one of Keith’s proudest
accomplishments and he loved flying. Keith was an accomplished athlete in high
school and college. He enjoyed skiing and writing short stories and poems about
his experiences later in life. He was a Disabled Veteran and was very active in
and committed to the local veteran’s community. Keith was a devoted family man
and friend with an open heart and helping hand for everyone he met along the
way.
Keith is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lori; three sons,
Shawn(Brandy), Todd and Seth, daughter, Ramie(the late Jesse Nickens), and ‘son’, Patches; seven grandchildren, Stefan,Taylor, Savanna, Alixxus, Lorin, Leighton and Syler;
grand-dogs; Boomer, Knoxville, Bronx, Shelby, Lucy, Abigail and Jingle;
grand-cats, Zero and Pepe le’ Pew; greatgranddaughter,
Olivia; beloved siblings, “Dick”, Kim, Debbie, Brad and Scott; siblings-in-law,
Teresa, Debbie, Don, Carolyn, Denise, Charlie & Vicki, David, Cheryl &
Ric, Danny & Kathy, Barb, Bob and Jan; more than 20 nieces and nephews;
scores of cousins and countless other beloved family members and friends.
Keith and Lori lived and loved together through all of
life’s joys and troubles. Devoted to each other and their children, they built
a life and a love together that can serve as an example to us all. They
remained by each other’s side throughout and Lori devoted herself to his care
and comfort these past few difficult and trying years. We ask that you please
keep our mother in your thoughts.
Keith was a force of nature; charming with a ready smile
that would put others at ease. He always had time for those in need of a friend
or someone to listen; whether it was fellow veterans or residents of the living
centers where he and Patches would visit as unofficial animal therapists. Keith
spent his later decades finding peace for himself and then sharing that peace
and love with others. His rich deep voice and sage wisdom and advice helped
many souls to find peace in their own lives and he will be sorely missed by
many.
He fought valiantly against the odds these past years and
won, but the effort took almost everything he had. His pain and suffering are
over now, and although his absence will leave a hole in all of our hearts; he
showed us how to love and care for each other. So we will move forward
following his example; richer and wiser for having shared time with him.
Visitation will be 11:00 AM - 2:30 PM, Saturday, September 8, 2018, at Colvin Funeral Home, 425 North Main Street, Princeton, followed by the funeral service at 2:30 PM. Military services by retired military veterans.
