James H. Mason, of Evansville, formerly of Top Hat Road - Princeton Indiana, passed away Monday, July 16 at age 79.
Born 21 Sep 1938.
Mr. Mason was a teacher and principal at North Gibson School Corporation for nearly 40 years and as such will touch this community for generations to come.
Travelling with Jim in Princeton was akin to being the pied piper, with children of all ages coming up to remember the good times in his class and schools. His memory of the names and classroom talents and antics of each student, even those well into adulthood, was always impressive. He took great pride and respect for his career as an educator and administrator.
Jim attended Princeton High School (Class of ’56) and Evansville University. He received his Masters of Education at ISU in Terre Haute, Indiana. He lived in Gibson County from birth in 1938 until his recent relocation to northern Vanderburgh County.
A member of the Elks, an avid golfer and friend to many--he will be missed at those places where locals meet to solve the world’s problems... (the back table). He attended Hillside United Methodist Church in Princeton.
He leaves his wife of 44 years, Donna, daughter Jenifer Heidi (Russ) Gruelle of O’ Fallon, MO, and Donna’s son Kent (Leslie) DeJarnett of Monroe, NC. Jim leaves 9 grandchildren: Trey DeJarnett of Alpharetta GA, Rachel and Joe Gruelle of O’ Fallon, MO, and K.J., Bradley, Danielle, Mason, Graham and Cale DeJarnett, and 4 great-grand children, all of North Carolina.
Mr. Mason was preceded by his parents, Marshall and Elisabeth “Bett” Mason and stepson Donald R. "D.J." DeJarnett Jr..
Graveside services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Decker Cemetery in rural Patoka, officiated by Pastor Curtis Bond, with burial following. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery. Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton has been entrusted with the arrangements.
