Joe W. Byrn, 82, of Oakland City
entered in to rest on Sunday July 29, 2018 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in
Newburgh, IN surrounded by his family.
He was born on Dec.16,1935 in Detroit Michigan to Wilburn Byrn & Mary Golden Hickerson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of
54 years, Jan Byrn in 2009 and a nephew.
After high school he graduated from the Detroit Police
Academy. Joe served in the United States Army and was a member of F. & A.M.
Masonic Lodge #467 in Oakland City. Joe served as a Volunteer Fireman for
several years. He was an avid bowler, earning the nickname "Lefty",
passing his love of bowling on to his grandson Keaton. Joe enjoyed ballroom
dancing with his wife Jan. He was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and IU
basketball making countless memories sharing this love with his children and
grandchildren. He had worked at Prestolite Battery Company, Farmer and Son
Insurance Agency, Old Ben Coal, Uebelhor Oil Company,
T.J. Maxx and Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel. After retirement he enjoyed spending
his days with the children at his daughter's daycare.
Joe is survived by his son, Kent (Vickie) Byrn of Mt. Vernon, IN; daughter Kathi (Troy) Green of
Princeton, IN and a Sister Janice Summers of Detroit, MI. Grandchildren; Jason (Jamie) Byrn of Hendersonville, TN, Nicolette Byrn
of Evansville, IN, Ami Jo (Ryan) Koberstein of
Evansville, IN, Russell Green and Keaton Green of Princeton, IN. Great-
Grandchildren; Stella Rian, Fynn Daniel, Thatcher Leo
and Sunni Jo Koberstein, Reed Jameson and Layne
Joseph Byrn.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday July 31, 2018 at Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel in Oakland City, IN with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery in Vincennes, IN. Rev. Larry Stoops will be officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until services on Tuesday at the chapel.
