Dewayne
A. Hume, 89 of Oakland City passed away Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Health South
Deaconess Rehab Hospital in Evansville.
He
was born Sept. 30, 1928, in Pike County to Austin and Myrtle (McRoberts) Hume.
Dewayne
served in the U.S. Army Reserves during W.W.II. He was a retired
Electrician working for Peabody Coal Company and was a member of the
U.M.W.A. He had previously worked for Whirlpool for several years. He had
also owned and operated Hume Reality and Insurance and a television sales and
service shop in Winslow. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He
enjoyed attending and supporting Wood Memorial High School sporting events. He
was the rock and the glue of the whole family always encouraging family
gathering, enjoying the yearly fishing trips with his brothers to Barkley Lake
which lasted for 25 years.
Dewayne
is survived by his wife, Wanda Hume of Oakland City; 2 daughters, Adrienne Rowe
(Daniel) of Oakland City and Erica Gause (Tom) of
Zionsville, IN; 8 grandchildren, Bree and Briley Rowe, Alexis Williams, Emma,
Erin and Megan Gause, David Burns and Nichole Wells;
2 great-grandchildren, Brandon and Sierra Martindale; 4 brothers, Donald Hume
of Winslow, Lindel Hume of Princeton, Lester Hume of
Big Rock, IL; and Richard Hume of Newburgh, several nieces and nephews.
He
was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sherrie Hume; 2 sisters, Evelyn
Davis and Estyln Eversoll;
brothers, Jerry and Kenneth Hume.
Funeral
service will be 10 a.m. central time, Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Corn-Colvin
Funeral Home in Oakland City. Burial will follow in the Williams Cemetery in
Pike County. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. central time, Tuesday and
from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
