Reverend Tarrell Thompson, 91, of
Owensville, IN, passed away at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, IN on April
16, 2018.
He was born to the late Orion P. and Nancy (Askren) Thompson on
September 18, 1926 in Owensville, IN.
Tarrell attended Owensville High School, Oakland
City University, Kentucky Wesleyan College and Methodist Theological Seminary
of Ohio in Delaware, OH. He received the Harry Denman Evangelism Award from the
Foundation for Evangelism of the United Methodist Church and Distinguished Volunteer
Award from Christian Camping International Volunteer in Mission by the Miami
District Response of the United Methodist Church.
Tarrell took many missions trips to places
including the Tinian Island in the Marianas and Guam. He was a General Baptist
Pastor from 1954 – 1964 and became a United Methodist Pastor in 1964. His
Methodist Pastoral career started in Rockport, IN and went to Connersville, IN,
Van Wert, OH, Centerville, IN, Washington, IN, Bedford, IN, Seymour, IN,
Westfield, IN, and Evansville, IN. In 1992, Tarrell
retired from Full-time ministry and was Interim Pastor at Bethlehem General
Baptist, Fort Branch United Methodist Church, Fort Branch Presbyterian Church,
and lastly at Fairview Presbyterian in Princeton, IN. Tarrell
was chairperson for Nightcrawler Ministries, coordinated work teams in response
to hurricanes and tornados in Florida, Louisiana, Texas, and Arkansas. He was
always heavily involved in all aspects of the churches he was a part of and was
a part of several committees and groups around every community of which he was
living.
He was a member of the Lions Club of Guam, Scottish Rite of Guam,
Shrine in Hawaii, American Legion in Seymour, IN, Masonic Lodge in Rockport,
IN, American Legion in Evansville, IN, Hadi Shrine in
Evansville, IN, and Life Member of VFW post #1114 in Evansville, IN.
Tarrell is preceded in death by his loving wife
Eva Lena (Hurt) Thompson, brothers; Arthur Thompson and David Thompson, and
sisters; Eva Hurt and Mary Mullen.
He is survived by 3 children; Annetta Prieshoff
of Princeton, IN, Ronald Thompson of North Vernon, IN, and David Thompson of
Greencastle, IN, 3 grandchildren; Justin Thompson, Jacob Prieshoff,
and Houston Thompson, and 2 great grandchildren; Adrian and Havic
Thompson.
Services will be on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Stodghill Funeral Home with Reverend Doug Heiman and
Reverend Steve Cherry officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, April 20, 2018
from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 9:00 AM to service
time at Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch, IN
with a Masonic Service and 33rd Degree walk-through to be held at 7:30 PM on
Friday. Military Honors will be conducted at Walnut Hill Cemetery on Saturday,
April 21, 2018 prior to burial.
