Michael R. Schafer, 70, of Princeton, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018 at home.

He was born August 13, 1947 in Princeton to the late Louis “Bud” and Helen (Mathews) Schafer.

Mike graduated from Francisco High School in 1966 and then served his country in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Sheet Metal Workers Union Local #20 in Evansville and retired from Evansville Sheet Metal Works, where he had worked for 41 years. He was also a member of Francisco General Baptist Church.

Mike is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jayne Schafer; a daughter, Tina White (Dale) of Patoka; 2 sons, Shawn Schafer (Amanda) and Cortney Schafer (Crystal) of Princeton; 9 grandchildren Skylar Ranard (Clay), Samantha Kahle, (Ben), James Michael White, Damon Meny, Alex Schafer, Bailey Schafer, Sawyer Schafer, Katlyn Schafer and Hunter Stokes; 4 great grandchildren; a brother, Larry Schafer (Ida) of Evansville; a sister, Peggy Willis (Gary) of Somerville; and an aunt, Gweneth Beasley of Francisco

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Judith Ann Schafer; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and Opal Sturgeon; brothers-in-law, Bobby Joe Sturgeon and Kenneth Bottoms and a sister-in-law, Mitsuko Schafer.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton, with Pastor Katheryn Webb officiating. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Monday and again on Tuesday from 9 until 10 a.m. at Colvin Funeral Home.
