Vera (Howe) Archer, 97, a descendant of one of Gibson County's pioneer families, passed away Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017 at her home in Carmel.

She was born in Princeton Dec. 13, 1920, daughter of Merritt and Hattie (Robinson) Howe.

She married David Milton Archer, a local farmer and livestock dealer, on Nov. 16, 1936, and they lived just north of Princeton on Old Patoka Road for many years.

She was a member of the Gen. John Gibson Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Presbyterian Church of Princeton, the Order of the Eastern Star, and Lady Elks. Her family and her husband's family donated land to establish Archer Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant children; her son David Archer in 1984; her husband in 2001; her younger brother Herbert "Bud" Howe in 2013; and cousin, Robert Howe in 2016.

She is survived by her daughter Suellen of Carmel, grandchildren, great grandchildren and cousins.

Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Archer Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Mark Holland. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery. Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton is assisting the family with arrangements.
