Ruth A. Wright (Mom, Grandma, Grammy), 90, of Princeton, IN passed away peacefully Sat. September 16, 2017 at Parkview Care Center, Evansville, IN.
She was born January 20, 1927 in Ft. Branch, IN to Harmon and Grace (Cater) Lockridge.
She was a homemaker, but had worked at The Princeton Brush Factory, Gilbert Stephens, J.C. Penney and also the Lockheed Aircraft cafeteria in Lancaster, CA. She was a member of The First General Baptist Church, and formerly a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Ruth was known as a wonderful cook, a patient, happy, positive person, a little shy but easy to know. She crocheted many afghans, slippers and baby sweaters through the years, along with other crafts. She taught her daughter to sew and passed her love of cooking, & bird watching and feeding to her daughter and granddaughter, and son Rick. She loved plants and flowers and could grow the prettiest African violets as well as tomatoes! Ruth dearly loved her little companions, most recently two tiny yorkies, Sassy, then Coco. She lived up to her name "Ruth - a faithful friend" as her friends, many lifelong, and family would most certainly agree.
Her husband Ernie's career required a family move every few years to a new state or city, yet she managed to turn each place into a happy, cozy home. There was always a cake for birthdays, & the holidays were filled with wonderful aromas of fudge, pecan pies, cookies & breads. Thanksgiving and Christmas were THE meals of the year!
Ruth is survived by two sons, William Dean "Willy" Whitten of Princeton, Rick Wright, and daughter Marcia Hitchcock (Greg), all of Evansville, IN; 5 grandchildren, Aneg Verdone, Balin Whitten, Monica "Evani" Whitten, Toby Hitchcock (Christina) and Tori Will (Zak); 4 step grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren, Tyler Wheeler, Asher and Arianna Hitchcock, Jasper and Duncan Will; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest Wright, Jr. In 1991; step son, Michael Wright in 2004; sisters, Imogene Rafferty, Martha Gabbard and Janice Cantrell; and many friends & family.
Her family would like to give special thanks to those who gave extra support and love to Ruth including Carol Carson, Harold (Pat) Wright, sisters Imogene & Janice, Gale & Kelsie Valle, & Teresa Lewis.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Oasis Assembly of God, 1104 S. Stout St., Princeton, IN 47670, officiated by Rev. Greg Hitchcock.
