Ralph C. “Butch” Davis, 70, passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2017 surrounded by his loving wife and family.

He was born March 23, 1947 in Owensville to Ralph J. Davis and Joann (McClean) Davis-Fitch.


Butch was a graduate of Princeton High School, class of 1965 and served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked with his father at the Davis Lumber Company and took over the operation of the business in 1990. In 1985, he became a patrolman for the Princeton City Police Department and was later appointed to the position of Chief of Police by former mayor Shirley Robb. He retired from the position in 2010. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice in 2008 from Oakland City University.

Butch had a great curiosity in the many mysteries of life. He developed a gift for public speaking later in life and supporting Veteran causes including, compassionate care for the elderly. He continued to enjoy learning throughout his lifetime. Although, he loved driving fast cars, specifically his 1965 GTO, he also enjoyed solitary pursuits such as gardening, fishing, listening to music and watching the History channel. He and his wife Rachelle, whom he married on August 27, 2010 especially relished going to dinner and the movies and spending quiet time together.

He was a member of Blythe Chapel Church and supported the Young Marines of Gibson County.


He is survived by his wife, Rachelle; daughters, Julie Vittori and George Vittori, Stephanie (Matt) Dewus; step-daughter, Shelby (Andrew) Karges; grandchildren, Austin Dewus and Jack Vittori; mother, Joann Davis-Fitch; sisters, Beverly (John) Boss, Mary Wallace and Tami (Jeff) Middleton; and several nieces and nephews.

Butch was preceded in death by his father in 1995 and brother, Terry D. Davis in 2013.

Graveside services with full military honors by the retired military veterans will be held on Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm at Blythe Chapel Cemetery in Owensville, IN with Randy Mills officiating.
