Cletus M. Oing, 94, of Fort Branch, IN passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Charlier Hospice Center in Evansville, IN.
Clete was born May 9, 1923 in Haubstadt to the late Margaret (Wilm) and Ben Oing.
Clete started Oing Electric in 1951. He was a member of Holy Cross Church, and he and his wife Alma were recipients of the Bishop's Brute' Award recognizing them for their stewardship and service. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus council 2215 for over 65 years and was a past Grand Knight. Clete was a Lieutenant in the U. S. Navy and served as a fighter pilot in both WWII and the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the VFW 2714 and past Fire Chief of the Fort Branch Volunteer Fire Department. He loved boating, flying planes, and spending time at Lake Barkley.
Besides his parents, Clete is also preceded in death by his wife Alma, son Roger, infant son Michael, second wife Faye, and all of his brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his children, Barb (David) Hetrick of Tierra Verde, FL, Judy (Rick) Rayborn of Park Ridge, IL, Jim (Jackie) Oing of Fort Branch, and daughter-in-law Becky Oing Kincaid of Cambria, CA. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren Blake, Tanner and Reed Oing and Jessica and Rachel Rayborn.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, June 20th at 11 AM at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Fort Branch, IN. Burial will be at the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 3:30 PM followed by visitation on Monday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Stodghill Funeral Home located on Hwy 168 West in Fort Branch and again at 10 AM until service time at the church on Tuesday. Military services will be conducted by the VFW Post #2714 and American Legion Post #194 at the graveside following the Mass.
