Russell S. Butts, 76, of Princeton, passed away Monday, April 10, 2017 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN.

He was born January 26, 1941 at his home at 1023 South Prince St., Princeton, Indiana to John “Poppy” and Nannie Butts.

He served his country in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years. Russell proudly served as a Deacon and Elder for the United Presbyterian Church in Princeton. He worked for McDonald Douglas, Babcock & Wilcox, Pacific Press, Cardinal & Associates all before he worked and retired from Heritage Custom Fabricators. Russell was a member of the Hadi Shrine Temple in Evansville and the Prince Masonic Lodge #231 F&AM in Princeton. He was also active with the High School vocation dept. Sunday was dad’s favorite day. His last Sunday was one of his best. He got up, went to church, taught Sunday school and shared his testimony with the Sunday school class. He then ate breakfast for lunch at the Palace, visited his kids, and the next day woke up in Heaven.

Russell is survived by his wife, Carolynn Butts; 6 children, Lynn Barrett (Jeff) and their children, Kaitlynn Barrett and Collen Barrett (Emily Bays), Chad Butts (Gerna) and their children, Kyle Butts (Cheyanna Carlisle) and their son Beau, and Joe Butts, Kathleen “Pooh” Butts (special friend, David Elliott) and her daughter, Mikah Johnson, Rusty Butts (Julie) and their daughter, Willow Butts, Clint Butts (Michele) and their children, Owen, Ethan and Lea Butts, and Tim Butts (Michele Holder); brother, Jim Butts (Carol); sister, Mary Sachs; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Bill Pauley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Keagan Miranda Butts; grandson, Dane Logan Barrett; brother, John Bill Butts; sister-in-law, Jeanette Butts and brother-in-law, Louis Sachs.

Funeral Service-Celebration of Russell's life will be held at 1:30 pm Friday, April 14, 2017 at United Presbyterian Church, 130 East State St., Princeton, IN 47670, officiated by Jim Butts and Pastor Hruaia Vanlal. Burial will follow at the Columbia White Church Cemetery in Princeton, with full military rites by the Retired Military Veterans. Visitation will be from 3:30 to 8 pm on Thursday and from noon until service time on Friday at the United Presbyterian Church. Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton is honored to be serving the Butts family and entrusted with arrangements.
