Karl E. Newcomb, 75, of Evansville, IN was called home to his Lord on Friday, January 13, 2017 at the Deaconess VNA Charlier Hospice Center located in Evansville, IN.


Karl was born on Wednesday, October 22, 1941 in Rochester, IN to James Gould and Donna Irene (Brooks) Newcomb, both of whom preceded him in death.

Karl began his career with the former Public Service Indiana (currently Duke Energy) in December of 1963 at an entry level position at the Dresser Generating station in West Terre Haute, transferring to Gibson Station in September of 1973 and was instrumental in starting up unit #1. In April of 1981 he left Gibson Station and went to Noblesville IN working his way up to plant manager of the Noblesville generating station. In August of 1984 he was transferred back to the Gibson Generating Station as Superintendent of the Operations Dept until his retirement.

On August 23 of 1971, he met his future bride on a blind date and 29 days later, married Sharon (Ramsey) Newcomb in West Terre Haute on September 22, 1971.

Karl was a member of North Friendship General Baptist Church in Lynnville, IN and was President of Men of Missions.


Karl is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sharon, sons Doc Newcomb of Marengo, IL, Tom (Beth) Hooper of Atlanta, IN, Jamie (Chandra) Newcomb of Evansville, IN, Tim (Jenny) Newcomb of El Paso, IL, and daughter, Julie (Jim) Loehr of Ft. Branch, IN, 27 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

He was preceded by his parents, daughter Jean Ann Lautzenheiser, and brother Edwin Newcomb.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM (CST) on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at North Friendship General Baptist Church, located at 2244 W IN State Rd 68, Lynnville, IN 47619, with Pastor Johnny Hibbs and Rev. Ron Black officiating. Internment will take place in Blythe Chapel Cemetery in rural Owensville, IN.

Visitation will be Friday, January 20, 2017 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM (CST) at the church.
