James Arthur Kennett, 79, of
Poseyville, Indiana, born to Lucian and Doris
(Burger) Kennett on September 12, 1937, in Coalmont,
Indiana; Jesus came to take him home Thursday, December 29, 2016, at New
Harmonie Healthcare in New Harmony, Indiana.
He grew up in Coalmont, Indiana and attended Coalmont
School. While attending college at Indiana State University in Terre Haute,
Indiana, he married his wife of 57 years, Marilyn Sue Wyatt.
He began his military
service in the Indiana Army National Guard in 1960 and retired in 1997. He
began his teaching career in 1964 at Perry High School where he also coached
Junior High Basketball. He also taught at English High School in Crawford
County, Indiana. He began teaching at North Posey High School in 1971 and
retired in 1998. He was a devoted husband, father and brother. And was an avid
quail hunter and loved being outdoors with his children and bird dogs. He was a
member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Poseyville
Masonic Lodge 632, National Rifle Association and the Evansville Hadi Shrine.
Surviving are his wife:
Marilyn Sue (Wyatt) Kennett; sons: J. Mark Kennett of New Harmony, Indiana,
Michael Kennett and his significant other Debra Wicker of Evansville, Indiana;
daughter: Melissa Kennett of Wadesville, Indiana; 2 grandsons: Joshua and
Jeremy Bogard; 2 granddaughters: Nicole (Paul) Day
and Rachael Sue Kennett; 6 great grandchildren: Jaceton,
Javin, Aubrey, Autumn, Makaylee
and Harley; brothers: Jack (Cheryl) Kennett Of Worthington, Indiana and Charlie
(Becky) Kennett of Las Vegas, Nevada and a sister: Janis (Ed) Rine of Indianapolis, Indiana along with several nieces and
nephews.
Preceding him in death were
his parents and sisters: Merle Kennett and Joy Matherly.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Monday, January 2, 2017, at St. Paul’s United
Methodist Church in Poseyville, Indiana with burial
in Saulmon Cemetery. Rev. Paul Huntsman officiating.
Visitation will be from 2–7 p.m., Sunday, January 1, 2017, at the Werry Funeral Home in Poseyville,
Indiana with a Masonic Service starting at 7 p.m. and visitation to continue 9
a.m. until service time Monday, January 2, 2017 at the church.
