Marvin H. Schurmeier, 93, of Mackey, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2016 at his home.
He was born on November 28, 1922 in Haubstadt, IN to the late Herbert and Anna (Kramer) Schurmeier and graduated from Haubstadt High School.
He then served as a machine apprentice at the LST shipyards in Evansville, before being drafted into the armed services. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during WW II with the 253rd mechanized artillery. He was a lifetime farmer and had lived in the Mackey area since 1950, moving from Haubstadt. He was a very active member of the former Somerville American Legion Post. He attended the New Covenant Baptist Church in Princeton.
He is survived by his children, Arvin (Dorothy) Schurmeier of Mackey and Nelda (Mark A.) Booker of Princeton; 3 grandchildren, Jessica Cox, Tara Lyn Bradshaw and Rita Lynn Schurmeier; 2 great grandchildren, Matthew Ray Moore and Taylor Ray Bradshaw; brother, Kenneth Schurmeier of Princeton; 2 sisters, Lillian Bertram of Georgia and Norma Jean (Charles) McKee of West Lafayette, IN; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 1st wife, Oneida (Buck) Schurmeier; 2nd wife, Sarah Imogene (Douglas) Schurmeier in 1996; daughter, Rita Ann Montgomery in 2004; and 2 infant children.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at the Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City, officiated by Rev. Miles Zeigler. Burial will follow at the Walnut Hill Cemetery near Ft. Branch, IN. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Corn-Colvin Funeral Home. Military rites will be conducted by the Oakland City American Legion Post 256.
