Sara Joan Sisson, 86, of Newburgh, Indiana, formerly of Oakland City, entered into rest on Saturday September 17, 2016, at Newburgh Healthcare.
She was born on December 8, 1929, in Huntingburg, Indiana, to Jacob and Lydia (Hamelman) Rauscher.
She was a member of Forsythe United Methodist Church where she was treasurer for 35 years and an active member in the choir, Forsythe United Methodist Women’s Group, and the Purdue Homemakers Extension Club. Early in her adult life, she was employed with Huntingburg Furniture Company and then became a full-time homemaker. She enjoyed crafts and gardening. Joan was always a devoted and supportive daughter, wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 58 years, Alvin Lloyd Sisson, and her two brothers William (Bill) and Larry Rauscher.
She is survived by her daughters: Zenda
(Terry) White of Newburgh, Kim (Doug) Grismore of
Mooresville, and Shannon (Kevin) Rock of Newburgh; grandchildren: Khali
White-Ladd (Nathan), Shandli (Brad) Joyce, Andrew
(Katy) Grismore, Emily Grismore,
Cade Rock, Jensen Rock; and great-grandsons: Nehemiah Grismore
and Owen Joyce.
Joan is also survived by a sister, Doris (Larry) Ferguson,
of Huntingburg and a sister-in-law, Ann Sisson, of Pittsfield, Illinois, as
well as several nieces and nephews.
Services will be Thursday, September 29, 2016, at 10:00 A.M. at Forsythe United
Methodist Church, Oakland City, with burial in Forsythe Cemetery. Rev .Matt Malin will be
officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 P.M. on Wednesday September 28,
2016, at Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel and from 9:00 A.M. until services on
Thursday at the Church.
