Anthony “Andy” E. Mayer, 89, passed away on September 29, 2016 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN.
He was born to the late Dennis and Mary (Loehr) Mayer on April 19, 1927 in Haubstadt, IN.
Andy was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Fort Branch, IN, the Knights of St. John in Haubstadt, IN, VFW post #2714 in Fort Branch, IN, and Eagles Lodge #361 in Princeton, IN. He was also a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. He worked for Dewig Meats for several years and also retired from Whirlpool after many years of service on April 24, 1992.
He is preceded in death by a daughter Anna Stolz, brothers John, Leroy, Oscar, and Henry Mayer and sisters Catherine Hall, Mary Voelker, Vera Roedel, and Matilda Case.
Andy is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Anna (Spindler) Mayer, daughters Brenda (Jay) Halter of Vincennes, IN, Virlee (Jerry) Williams of Carmi, IL, Jo (Larry) Michel of Fort Branch, IN, son-in-law Paul Stolz of Evansville, IN, sister Betty Fischer of Evansville, IN, 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Fort Branch, IN on Monday October 3, 2016 at 11:00 AM with Fathers Tony Ernst and Biju Thomas and Deacon Charlie Koressel as celebrants. Visitation will be at Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch on Sunday October 2, 2016 from 3:00 pm- 8:00 pm and again on Monday at Holy Cross Catholic Church from 10:00 AM to service time. A Rosary service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday. Military Honors will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery by VFW post #2714 and American Legion post #194.
