FAIRBANKS, Alaska—Dan Savage (Danny Bolin), 70, originally of Owensville, peacefully passed away Aug. 15, 2016.

Danny was born Sept. 17, 1946, the eldest of three children born to Sharon Bolin (Armstrong/Woods), also of Owensville.

Danny enlisted in the Army in 1965 as a radio operator.

He served as a Green Beret with the famed 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), completing multiple tours in Vietnam.

Danny’s life was filled with adventure, travel, and excitement. Through Danny’s travels, he finally settled down in Fairbanks, Alaska, a place that took his heart while on a layover in the Army. He lived in a small cabin about 60 miles north of Fairbanks, trapping and hunting. He enjoyed and loved the beauty of the Alaska wilderness.

During the long cold winters he would carve amazing sculptures using only a pocket knife, and it wouldn’t be unusual for Danny to have a pet owl or some other small animal to take care of. His endless stories will be missed by all.

Danny is survived by his daughter, Brooke Ianuario; a stepson, Jason Beatty, Fairbanks, Alaska; a sister, Lucinda Helfrick (Gerry), Andalusia, Alabama; a brother; Gary Bolin, Houston, Texas; a niece, Sharon Land (Bobby), Crestview, Florida; a nephew, Kevin Helfrick (Desiree), Seattle, Washington; and one grandson, Shawn Savage.

Danny is preceded in death by his mother, Sharon Savage, Fairbanks.  Danny has been cremated and ashes scattered per his wishes near his beloved cabin in the woods.
