Rev. Rex E. Wallace, 89, of Fort Branch, IN, passed away at his residence on Monday, May 30, 2016. 

He was born to the late James W. and Maude (Durham) Wallace on Oct. 28, 1926 in Fort Branch, IN.

Rex was a member of the Fort Branch First United Methodist Church.  He was a retired United Church of Christ Minister in 1992, after 43 years of service.  He graduated from the Fort Branch High School in 1944, where he entered into the U.S. Navy in WW II, in 1949 he graduated from Oakland City College and was ordained a minister by the Evangelical United Brethren in 1949.  In 1954 he graduated from Bonebrake Theological Seminary.  He served with American Cancer Society from 1963, until 1965, and was ordained a United Church of Christ minister in 1965.

He was minister of the St. Stephens United Church of Christ from June, 1965 until Sept. 1974, where he was instrumental in the rebuilding the St. Stephens Church after it burned in 1965.  He then served as minister of the Zion United Church of Christ in New Palestine, IN from Sept. 1974 and moved to Louisiana.  Rex and Margie moved back to Fort Branch in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina, the only place he ever called home.

Rex was a member of the New Palestine Lions Club for 58 years, the Fort Branch Masonic Lodge # 696, where he was twice, the Worshipful Master, the Evansville Lodge of Perfection 14 degree, Mordecai Council Prince of Jerusalem, and the Trinity of Rose Croix.

Rex is survived by his wife, Margaret (Hoffman) Wallace of Fort Branch, IN, 3 daughters, Janet Metzger of Booneville, IN, Jeanne Crowder of Alexander City, AL, Rexanne Robicheaux of Fort Branch, IN, 3 sons, Brian Crowder of Spring TX, Steven Crowder of Alexander City, AL, and Terry Crowder of Fischers, IN, 2 brothers, Carl Wallace of Evansville, IN and Donald Wallace of Princeton, IN, 8 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.

There will be no service or visitation as was Rex’s request.  Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch is in charge of local arrangements.
