Paris B. Pickett age 85, of Patoka, IN, left this world to begin his journey in a new world on Monday, May 9, 2016.

Paris was born on Monday, March 30, 1931 in Luttrell, TN.

He moved to Noblesville, IN when he was 5 years of age with his adoptive parents, Bernard H. & Mary Irene Gibbs Pickett.

Paris loved horses and rode his horse, Buddy to deliver his Indianapolis Star newspaper route. He enjoyed cooking, music and playing the guitar. In the mid 60’s he decided to take flying lessons, (his father being a crop duster in the 20’s) earning his pilots license. During the CB radio era, he was right in there with his handle being the “Galloping Gourmet”. He was a member of many organizations including the Eagles, The Elks and The NRA.

He began his career his career with PSI (Duke Energy) in June of 1953 at the Noblesville, IN generating plant. He was transferred to the Gallagher Generating plant in New Albany, IN, in 1960. He served as a union steward in the local IBEW before becoming a Control Room Supervisor. In 1973 Paris was transferred to the Gibson Generating Plant, here in Princeton where he was instrumental in bringing the plant online, retiring in 1993 after 37 1/2 years of service. After retirement, he occupied some of his time delivering the Princeton Daily Clarion and delivered for Meals on Wheels for 10 years.

Paris is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 57 years and love of his life, Jo G, and 3 sisters; Dorothy, Eva and Velma.

He is survived by his furry companion Jo Jo Dancer, 1 son, Bruce (Karen) Pickett of Evansville, IN, 3 daughters; Vickie Hanson of Princeton, IN, Brenda Hardiman of Princeton, IN and Beth (Joe) Lewis of Connersville, IN. Other survivors include 10 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and their spouses, 27 great grandchildren, 3 step great grandchildren. Also surviving is 1 sister, Zelma Hunt of Indianapolis, IN and brother, Emmet Shipley of Oregon along with numerous nieces and nephews. Special longtime friends, Norma Jean Davis of Greenville, IN, Bill Wagner of Allendale, IL and friends Mike Kermode of Patoka, IN and Delores Witt of Princeton, IN.

While his family is saddened by the loss of him, they are comforted in knowing he is with his Savior.

Paris opted for cremation and interment of ashes are pending. The family has entrusted Doyle Funeral Home, of Princeton, with arrangements.
