Mary John Reed, 94, of Duncan, Oklahoma passed away Tuesday, April
26, 2016 at Stepping Stone Rehabilitation in Marlow, Oklahoma.
Mary John was born February 1, 1922 at Owensville, Indiana to Charles and Susan
(Garrett) Roberts.
She attended Owensville High School. Mary John worked as an
executive secretary for Sears Sales/Whirlpool in Evansville, Indiana retiring
in 1985 after 35 years of service.
She married William Harold Reed on May 30, 1942 at Branson,
Missouri. He preceded her in death in February of 2003.
After her retirement in 1985, Mary John and Harold moved to
Bradenton, Florida and lived until Harold's death in 2003. At that time she decided to move closer to her nephew and niece,
Ross and Frances Coleman in Duncan. Mary John accepted Jesus as her Savior as a
young girl and was baptized in a creek in Owensville. She attended First
Baptist Church in Duncan, considered that her church home.
Mary John is survived by one sister, Irene Brower of Grand Rapids, Michigan;
and several nieces and nephews, including Frances Coleman of Duncan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Susan Roberts; her
husband of 61 years, William H. Reed; an infant son who died in 1946; three
sisters, Eloise Young, Lillian Redman and Fannie Coleman; and one brother, Roy
Garrett.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2016
at the Walnut Hill Cemetery in Fort Branch, Indiana, with her nephew Jim Young
officiating.
