Marion “Eloise” Jenkins Evans passed away
Friday, April 15, 2016, at RiverOaks Health Campus,
in Princeton, IN.
She was born in Wheeling, Indiana on October
20, 1918 to Kate and Marion “Cap” Jenkins.
She helped raise her younger, but very big
brothers, Dale, “Hoss”, Bob, “Chick” and Joe with much pride and joy. She
also loved telling stories of their shenanigans and how they tested her
patience growing up on the farm in Oatsville.
She
graduated from Mt. Olympus High School and Oakland City Business
School. She worked in factories in Evansville during W.W. II making
relays for war related equipment and afterwards was one of the first employees
at Potter and Brumfield in Princeton. She was an active member of The
Nazarene Church for decades and loved to sing gospel hymns and help with the
Missionary Society.
She
married Bob Evans in 1955 and helped raise his two children, Rob and Sandi.
She was grandmother to Rob’s son, Todd and Sandi’s son, Michael whom she
adored.
Eloise
also worked in the oil business in Houston, Texas and retired back to
Francisco, Indiana and later, Albion, IL. She enjoyed RVing
all over the United States and loved to share her traveling tales. She
was also an avid reader, fantastic seamstress and enjoyed cooking and
baking. Her fried chicken was historic as was her Bob Andy pie and banana
pudding.
She is
survived by her step children, Sandi (Joel) Jaffe in Houston, TX, Robert Evans
in Vincennes, IN and grandson, Todd Evans; brothers, Joe (Peg) Jenkins, Bob
(Betty) Jenkins; sister-in-laws, Dona Jenkins, Helena
Jenkins and Jackie Jenkins together with many nieces and nephews
and great nieces and nephews, all of whom she was very proud.
She was
preceded in death by her parents; brothers, “Hoss”, Dale, & “Chick”
Jenkins; and grandson, Michael Gardner.
The
family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care afforded by River Oaks
Health Campus in Princeton for the past nine years. They never wavered in
excellence.
Funeral
services will be held at the graveside at the Atkinson Chapel Cemetery in Oatsville, IN at 11:00 am, Saturday April 23, 2016 with
Pastor Chris Neikirk officiating.
There will be no public visitation. Colvin
Funeral Home in Princeton has been entrusted with the arrangements.
