Aline Ida (Dewig) Benkert, 85 passed away Monday, March 21, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born February 12, 1931 in Haubstadt, IN.

Aline was an amazing seamstress working at JC Penney’s in downtown Evansville and The Fabric Center making draperies and later made draperies, home décor and alterations from her home. She was Secretary/Treasurer of Benkert Oil which she and her husband Bud owned and operated from 1962 to 1996. Aline loved boating on the Ohio River and Kentucky Lake and loved camping. Aline and her husband loved NASCAR and attended 35 Daytona 500 races cheering on her favorite drivers, Dale Ernhardt and Dale Jr.

Aline was a member of St James Catholic Church in Haubstadt, IN, St. James Alter Society and Haubstadt Daughters of Isabella Circle #151.

Aline is survived by her son Lawrence (Cathy) Benkert, granddaughter Bridget Davis, grandson Bradley (Laura) Benkert, great-grandchildren, Jonathon, Kristen and Jesse Benkert, Step-grandchildren, Kayci (Shannon) Amos, Sarah (Eric) Dizney and five step great- grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Carolyn Mingay, Betty Weiss, Mary (James) Breivogel and Doris (Marvin) Schmitt as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and her good friend Jim Schultheis.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Leo Joseph “Bud” Benkert Jr, parents Leo and Catherine (Willem) Dewig, 2 sisters Alfreida Mayer and Germaine Relleke and 3 brothers Matthew (Buddy) Dewig. Clarence Dewig and Francis Dewig.

A Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at St. James Catholic Church with burial following in the church cemetery. 

Friends may call from 2 to 8 PM Monday, March 28 at Wade Funeral Home with a Rosary service beginning at 1:30 PM. Friends may also call Tuesday, March 29 from 9 to 10 AM at the church. 

The family would like to give a special thank you to granddaughter-in-law Laura Benkert, sister-in-law Joyce Henderson and Dr. David Utley and staff for their loving care and compassion and to Heritage Hospice. They would also like to thank Dr. Michael Mayron and staff in Henderson, KY for their help and guidance with Aline’s battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
