William E. (Bill) Riffert,
88, of Evansville formerly of Haubstadt passed away at his home on Sunday,
January 10, 2016 surrounded by his family.
Bill was born on July 1, 1927 to Virgil and Zetta (Shuey) Riffert
in Haubstadt, Indiana.
He graduated from Haubstadt High School in 1945 and
served in the United States Air Force. He retired from Emge Packing Co. in 1989 after 45 years of service.
Bill married his high school sweetheart, Alice Knapp,
in 1950 and they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last June.
Bill and Alice loved to dance and attended dances for
over 65 years. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening,
biking, camping and boating. He and Alice enjoyed spending the winter months at
their place in Naples, FL. He was a lifelong member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and an Honorary Life
member of Knights of Columbus #2215 in Haubstadt, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son,
Michael.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; sons: Denny (Angie)
of Newburgh, Brad of Baltimore, MD, and Dean (Cathy) of West Lafayette, IN;
five grandchildren: Ashley (Elpers) Scott, Jamie Riffert, Stephen Riffert, Kristen
Riffert and Derek Riffert;
brother: Jerry (Juliann) Riffert of Haubstadt.
The family would like to thank all of the physicians,
nurses and other caregivers that assisted him during his short illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 AM
Thursday, January 14 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic
Church in Haubstadt with Fr. Tony Ernst as celebrant. Burial will follow in the
church cemetery with military rites.
Friends may call at Wade Funeral Home in Haubstadt, IN
on Wednesday, January 13 from 3:00 to 8:00 PM with a Knights of Columbus Rosary
service beginning at 2:30 PM. Friends may also call from 10:00 AM until Mass
time Thursday, January 14 at the church.
