Ruth Esther Niederhaus, 91,
of Evansville, went to her heavenly home Monday, Nov. 30, 2015. She was born
Oct. 25, 1924 in Evansville, to Edwin and Esther (Schwiersch)
Letterman, the first of seven children.
As a child she attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and
School.
She married John Niederhaus
in 1945 and they were members of St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ in
Warrenton and later Salem UCC in Darmstadt.
For the last 30 years she has been a member of Christian
Fellowship Church where she was a greeter, bulletin assembler, and a regular
attendee of the Upper Room Sunday School Class.
Ruth grew up on the family farm located on Green River
Road and remembered when it was a gravel road.
She loved flower and vegetable gardening and enjoyed
the outdoors.
She graduated from Reitz High School in 1942 and
worked at SIGECO until her marriage. She also worked at Scott Elementary School
cafeteria during the 1970s and 80s. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Her friends, family and faith in Jesus were the most
important things in her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John
H.E. Niederhaus; daughter Charlene; and two sisters,
Betty Wendroth and Laura Wortman.
Ruth is survived by two daughters, Janice Besing (Gerald) of Evansville and Charlotte “Deanie” Bently (William) of
Bloomington; three sons, John H. C. Niederhaus
(Patricia) of Souderton, Pennsylvania, Veryl Niederhaus (Sandra) of Evansville, and William Niederhaus (Julie) of Haubstadt; 17 grandchildren; 19
great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruby Morgan (James), Edna Fischer (Robert), Irma Bosley (Sam,deceased);
brother, Robert Letterman (Liz), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 am., Friday, Dec. 4, 2015
at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Road, with
burial in St. Stephen UCC Church Cemetery.
Friends may visit Thursday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and
Friday from 10 a.m. to service time.
