E. Fern Corn, 92, of Oakland City, Indiana passed away
on Sunday, December 6, 2015 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Evansville, IN.
She was born October 28, 1923 in Pike County, IN to
Virgil and Esther (Ashby) Woods.
She was a longtime owner/operator of the Corn Mortuary
with her husband E. Eugene Corn. She continued to help in the business as her
son, David Corn took over. As Corn Mortuary became Corn-Colvin Funeral Home,
she continued to be a part of our staff. She also had "Ferns"
Restaurant in Oakland City in the late 1960's. She was a longtime member of the
First General Baptist Church in Oakland City. She was an avid golfer and bowler
most of her life. She was an active member in the Order of Eastern Star for
over 50 years. She was a former member of Tri-Kappa, Research Club and the
Friends of the Library at Oakland City/Columbia Township Library.
She is survived by her 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Genia
(John) Drake of Loogootee and Brenda (Earl) Penrod of Oakland City; 7
grandchildren, Scott (Tammy) Corn, Alan (Emmarie)
Corn, Matthew (Emilee) Corn, Jodi (Brett) Moulton, Patrick (Kelly) O’Neal, Cara
(Eric) Luecking and Allison (Adam) Graber; 15 great
grandchildren and 1 on the way; several great-great grandchildren; sister, Reba
Burton of Canton, IL; and a sister-in-law, Norma Woods, Loogootee.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, E. Eugene Corn in 1987;
son, David Corn in 2007; daughter-in-law, Dixie Corn in 2013; and her brother,
James Woods in 2008.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM (CST) on Friday, December 11, 2015 at
Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City, with Rev. Alec Hensley officiating.
Burial will be at the Montgomery Cemetery in Oakland City.
Visitation will be from 3 until 7 pm (CST) on Thursday
at the Corn-Colvin Funeral Home.
