Paul C. (Sonny) Ellis, Jr., 77, passed away at his home, surrounded by his children, grand-children and wife of 46 years, on Friday, Nov. 27, 2015.

He was born Feb. 10, 1938 in Oakland City, son of Paul C. Sr. and Violet (LaFollette) Ellis.

Survivors include his wife Marilyn (Gatewood), sons, Tim (Debra) of Princeton, Tony (Chris) of Rockton, IL Danny (Pennie) of Princeton, and Ronnie Ellis of Owensville; one daughter, Tricia (Curtis) Harms, Grayville, IL; 17 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Cindy Ellis of Oakland City; brother, Frank (Bud) Ellis of Soddy Daisy, TN;

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister, sister, Patty Whittington.

Paul was a United States Navy veteran serving on the USS Hopewell. He dedicated many years to a career as a coal miner at both Kings mine in Princeton and Amax Coal mine in Keensburg, IL. He followed in his mothers footsteps, as a gifted carver, spending many countless hours with this much loved craft. Paul was a man of few words, had a quiet disposition with a teasing nature. He had a slow smile that left those around him wondering just what he was up to.

The family request that in lieu of gifts in Paul's memory you would enjoy a walk with a loved one, hug your children, grandchildren, spouse or friend. Do a kind deed, share a laugh…..love….and simply live your life.

Services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 1, at 1:00 P.M. at Holders Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Edwards officiating. Burial will be in the Maumee Cemetery with the retired military veterans providing full military honors.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour.
