Marilyn Anne (Schmitz) Kartasuk,
81, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at St.
Mary's Medical Center.
Marilyn was born in Omaha, Nebraska on February 8, 1934 to the late Dr. William
and Frances (Dermody) Schmitz.
She was a 1955 graduate of Northwestern University with a
major in English. Following graduation, she married the love of her life,
Raymond H. Kartasuk in 1955 with whom she would have
celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this October 8th. In the years
that followed, she was blessed with three loving daughters. Family was of the
utmost importance to Marilyn and Ray and for that reason, they moved to
Evansville to be closer to family. She was a faithful and devoted member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Haubstadt, IN.
Marilyn was an avid gardener, was a wonderful dancer and painted many award
winning ceramics. She and her husband were very philanthropic and generous,
giving to the Catholic Church and many children's charities through time,
talent and treasure. Marilyn loved traveling with her family and traveled to
all seven continents.
Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Kim Epperson (David), Kathryn Vella
(David), and Karen Parra (Mark); grandchildren, Jennifer Keller (Adam), Stephen
Vella, Lauren Parra, Christina Parra, and Alexander Parra.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond H. Kartasuk
in 2015; her parents; brothers, Dr. William Schmitz, and James Schmitz, Jr.; a
grandson, Mark Andrew Epperson; and son-in-law, Stan Epperson.
A Celebration of Marilyn's life will begin with a rosary at 8:30 AM on
Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Sts. Peter and Paul
Catholic Church, 211 North Vine Street, Haubstadt, IN 47639 with visitation
beginning at 9:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Tony Ernst
celebrating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses at St. Mary's
Hospital 5 West, Dr. Michael Allen and his staff and Gentiva
Hospice for all of the care and compassion given to Marilyn.
