Elna Katherine Abell Thompson 95 of Winslow, IN entered rest on Sunday (14 Jun 2015) at her daughters home in Oakland City, IN. 

She was born in Union County, Ky. March 25, 1920 to James Franklin & Rubie
(Darr) Abell.

Preceding her in death were husband, Eugene A. Thompson in May of 1955, father, James Franklin Abell in Oct. 1924, brother, James Douglas Abell in Nov. 1980, her mother, Rubie Darr Abell in March 1995, and a step grandson, Michael Deno in Feb. 2000.

She was a graduate of Morganfield High School, now Union County High School, and Morganfield, KY. Elna attended Oakland City Collage and Murray State University in Murray, KY. She worked at the Chrysler Plant in Evansville during WWII. Elna was also receptionist for Dr. Karl Kraft, a dentist in Evansville.

In Nov. 1945 Elna and Eugene A Thompson were married. Elna began working for the school system in March 1966. Heber Shoultz was trustee and W. Newton Thompson was principal of Winslow High School at the time. She loved working at school very much and went to Pike Central in the fall of 1974 when the schools consolidated.

Elna was a member of the Church of Christ at Arthur, IN until the Church joined with the Church of Christ in Oakland City. She attended there and hardly ever missed a service.

Elna is survived by two daughters: Anita (Mel) Deno of Oakland City, and Darla (David) Riester of Arthur. 5 grandchildren survive, Julie Byrd, Jason, and Jeff Mullen, Melissa Gilmore and Jeremy Riester. 4 step grandchildren, Jenny Strickland, Penny and Matt Deno, and Bill Boyd. Great grandchildren, Hayden and Gabby Gilmore, Cody, Braxton, Derek and Sophie Mullen. Step great grandchildren, Zach and Amanda Strickland, Dakota, Bronte, and Hunter Deno, Pat Casey, Maddy, Grant, and Emily Boyd, and one step great, great grandchild, Jack Gulley .One sister survives, Cordelia A. Pullum of Henderson, KY. 

Graveside service will be at 10:00 A.M. Thursday June 18, 2015 at Blackfoot Cemetery. Bro: Steve Wright will be officiating.

Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday at Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel. Family and friends will gather at the cemetery for services on Thursday.
