Donald S. Gwaltney, 81, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2015.
He was born August 18,
1933 to Newman S. and Madeline (Smith) Gwaltney.
Don was a graduate of
Fort Branch High School Class of 1951. He was a gifted carpenter and mason.
Early in his career, he lived in central Indiana where he built churches with Gwaltney Brothers Constuction
Company. After moving back to southern Indiana, he was well known for his
carpentry skills in the Fort Branch and Owensville area. He built and remodeled
many houses before he retired in 2006 due to illness.
Don is survived by his
wife, Sharon (Michel) Gwaltney, of Fort Branch; a
daughter, Pam (Dennis) Wathen her mother, Patricia
(DeWeese) Smith, all of Evansville; sister, Peggy (Harry) Heppler
of Bettendorf, Iowa; aunts, Rosie (Doyle) Fritz, of Lynnville and Alice (Tepe) Gwaltney of Northfield, IN;
two grandchildren, Brian and Amy Francis of Evansville; three step-children,
Karen (Jim) Richardson of Owensville, Donna (Flint) Lindsey, of Denver,
Colorado, Wayne Dillon, of Clarksville, Tennessee; three step-grandchildren;
twelve step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death
by his parents and second wife, Marilyn (Flint) Gwaltney.
Services will be held on
Sunday, May 3, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Holders Funeral Home in Owensville, with
Dennis Wathen and Rev. Cory Atkins officiating.
Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Fort Branch.
Visitation will be from
10:00 a.m. until the service time at the funeral home
