Clifford R. “Dan” McGrew, 78, of Mount Carmel, passed
away on Friday, February 27, 2015 at his residence.
Dan was born the oldest child on October 19, 1936 in Clay County, IL, the son
of Merle and Florence (Taylor) McGrew.
Dan was a truck driver and enjoyed working until the age of seventy three. He
began driving a Chevy straight truck hauling seed corn when he was nineteen
years old. He moved up to driving semis when he turned twenty one and bought
his first truck in 1973. He has been an owner-operator ever since and loved to
work on his trucks. He especially enjoyed going to the American Truck
Historical Society antique truck shows. He loved being on the road and also
loved motorcycles. Dan will be missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his children, Barbara (Jim) Burns of Evansville, IN and Ray
(Melinda) McGrew of Hart, MI; three grandchildren, Randy, Dustin and Derek
McGrew; three great grandchildren, Noah Alldredge,
Ethan and Morrigan McGrew; his brother, Vernon
(Kathy) McGrew of Oklahoma; several cousins, one niece and two nephews.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son.
Dan will be cremated. A Memorial Service was held Saturday, March 14, 2015 at
the Community Center, Bellmont, IL.
