Richard A. Meyer, age 85, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. 

He was born February 13, 1929 in Haubstadt to George A. and Rosa (Mayer) Meyer. 

Richard retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 31 years during which he received an award for driving over one million miles without an accident.  

He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of American Legion Post #194 where he was past post commander and V.F.W Post #2714.  Richard was a lifetime member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church; an Honorary Life member and Past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Council #2215.  He along with his wife, Kathleen were recipients of the Simon Brute' Award from the Diocese of Evansville in 1992.

He enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending time with his family.  He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.  He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Maria Denise, 3 sisters; Freida Meyer, Anna Louise Meyer and Margaret Wolfe; 5 brothers; Arthur, Albertus, Leo, Paul and Harold Meyer.

Richard is survived by his wife of 60 years, Kathleen (Vaal) Meyer. Four sons, Patrick (Dana) Meyer and Greg (Jodie) Meyer of Haubstadt, Darryl (Diana) Meyer of Griffin, IN and Terry (Joy) Meyer of Ruma, IL.  10 grandchildren; Natalie (Brandon) Wright, Rachel (Joseph) Benac, Zachary, Malorie, Dora, Richard, Hannah, RuthAnn, Josie and Addie Meyer.  2 great-grandchildren, Sophie and Sam Wright. One sister, Rosalie Erny of Jasper. 

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 AM CST  Monday, January 19, 2015 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Tony Ernst & Fr. Sudhakar Bhastati as celebrants.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites. 

Friends may call from 2 to 7 PM CST Sunday, January 18 at Wade Funeral Home with a K of C Rosary service beginning at 6:30 PM.  Friends may also call at the church on Monday, January 19 from 10:00 AM CST until Mass time.

The family would like to thank MSA Hospice for their loving care and especially to his nurse, Sandy for her kindness and compassion.
