Melvin Barfield age 83 of Princeton, went to be with
his Lord, Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at his home.
He was born in Wheat Swamp, North Carolina Nov. 8,
1931 to Micajah and Ethel Jane (Wade) Barfield.
On Nov. 15, 1952, he was married to Marilyn (Plowman)
Barfield who preceded Nov. 18, 2014.
He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy during the
Korean War. After his military service he was a Golden Coral Franchise owner
for many years.
He is survived by sons, Michael (Rhonda) Barfield of
St. Charles, Missouri, Steven (Anna) Barfield of Germany, Brad (Rhonda)
Barfield of Winchester, Kentucky and Eric (Kathy) Barfield of Columbia, South
Carolina; daughters, Jane (George) Ferguson of New Bern, North Carolina, Joan
(Marty) Alden of Princeton and Diane (Gene) Houston of Marion, North Carolina
Other survivors include brother, Victor (Margie)
Barfield of Garner N.C; 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife;
brothers, Norman, Owen, Earl and Bruce and sisters, Ellen and Velma
There will be a memorial service and celebration of
life at 11 a.m.. Monday, Jan. 12, 2015 at Bethel
Memorial Church, located at 1520 S. Main St., Princeton, IN 47670, with Pastor
Kevin Wilson officiating. Military honors will be given by the Local Retired
Veteran’s Group.
Doyle Funeral Home assisted the family with
arrangements.
