Roberta Elizabeth (Obert)
Silva, 70, passed away December 6,2014 at her home in
Fort Branch, Indiana.
She was born in Snake Run, Indiana on February 19,
1944, to Clemens H. Obert and Marie M. (Wulf) Obert.
She was blessed to have a special uncle, August S. Wulf.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Frank J.
Silva, three sons, Joe (Amy) Silva, James (Stephanie) Silva, and Fr. John
Silva. She is also survived by a brother, Greg (Rose) Obert. Roberta has eight beautiful grandchildren,
Damian, Abigale and Annabelle Silva, Blake and Brooke Silva, and Nicole,
Hailey and Jake Richter and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Roberta is preceded in death by her sister Marlene Obert who passed away in Nov. 2013.
She dedicated her life to God, Church, family, school
and her community. She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and an
active member of the St. Anne’s Altar Society and the St. Bernard’s
Choir. She, along with her husband, was a recipient of the Brute Award
from the Diocese of Evansville.
She attended and was a strong supporter of Holy Cross
Catholic School. She was a 1962 graduate of Ft. Branch High School.
She obtained a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of
Evansville. She taught at Rex Mundi Catholic High School, Ft. Branch High
School and Gibson Southern High School where she was also a Guidance
Counselor. She completed her 48th year of working in the education field
in 2014.
She was a member of the South Gibson Classroom Teacher’s Association, South Gibson Dollars for Scholars,
Ft. Branch Alumni Association, Ft. Branch Gymnasium Board, ISTA, NEA and Delta
Kappa Gamma teacher’s society. She sponsored many activities and
clubs at Gibson Southern High School.
Roberta took much pride in her students. Her
gift was to help them have a successful life and career. She loved to help
other people with many projects and completed them with pride.
Roberta will truly be missed by her family, many
friends, co-workers and students.
Visitation will be held at Stodghill
Funeral Home in Ft. Branch on Tuesday, December 9th from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. and
on Wednesday morning, December 10th from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated by her son, Fr. John Silva,
along with Fr. Tony Ernst, Fr. Sudhakar Bhastati, Fr. Eric Sternberg, and Fr. Troy Przybilla and will take place at St. Bernard’s Catholic
Church, Snake Run, beginning at 11:00 a.m. on
Wednesday, December 10th.
