Helen Trusty Ferguson, 96, died Sunday, 7 December
2014, at the Protestant Home in Evansville, Indiana.
She was born on 26 August 1918 in Spurgeon, Indiana,
to John Ajax Nixon and Artie Mecie (Barrett) Nixon,
who preceded her in death as did both of her husbands, Howard Clay Trusty (d.
1994) and Gerald Ferguson (d. 1998).
Helen was proud to be the last survivor of her
generation, particularly amongst her cousins and her seven brothers and
sisters: Ransom Aaron Nixon, Mary Alta Nixon Parker, John Trevor Nixon, James
Darrell Nixon, Martha Olive Nixon Evans, Artie Inza
Nixon Mason, and Charles Alden Nixon.
Helen was a proud and devoted mother to Judith Houchins (Alford) of Monticello, Georgia, and Danny Howard
Trusty (Jeanette) of Evansville. Her survivors also include five
granddaughters: Tracy Norton of Milledgeville, Georgia; Shelley Enright
(Robert) of Ocala, Florida; Jennifer Masters (Tony) of Ashland, Virginia; Aimee
Stelogeannis (Alex) of Ocala, Florida; and Emma
Trusty Campbell (Nate) of Charlottesville, Virginia. In addition, Helen
leaves 17 great-grandchildren.
Helen was a long-time resident of Oakland City and
Princeton, Indiana, as well as Clearwater, Florida. In the 1950s
and early 1960s, Helen worked as a proofreader at the Princeton Daily
Clarion. In 1961 and 1962 she worked as a cook on a deep-sea
fishing boat out of Clearwater, Florida, cooking for clients and crew; during
that time she indulged her love of fishing. Later, Helen worked as a
waitress at Chicken Treat in Largo, Florida. Throughout her life, she
enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and fresh-water fishing, especially for
bluegill and bass. For ten years preceding her move to Evansville in 2008,
Helen worshipped at the Full Gospel Church in Oakland City.
