Emmitt E. Chavis, 79 passed
away Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
He was born July 14, 1935 in Gibson County to Marion
and Clesta (Greer) Chavis.
He had lived in Gibson County all of his life. He was
a retired heavy equipment operator with the International Union of Operating
Engineers Local 181. He was also a farmer and had worked for Old Ben Coal. He
was a member of the Patoka Church of God in Christ where he served as a Deacon.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ernestine (Madison) Chavis
of Princeton; 1 son, Shanndore Chavis
of Princeton; 2 daughters, Wilkemina (Kevin) Priestly
and Marzella Brown (William Gordon) both of
Princeton; 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Denver (Agnes) Chavis of Princeton and a sister, Sarah Jones of
Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Patrick Chavis.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m Tuesday January 6,
2015 at the Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton with Elder Odell Crawford
officiating. Burial will follow in the Sand Hill Cemetery rural Princeton.
Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. on Monday at
the Colvin Funeral Home.
